Community Access to Playgrounds and Gymnasiums: A Sustainable Approach .
The University of Kelaniya is committed to promoting community well-being and sustainable development through shared access to its sports and fitness facilities. In alignment with our values of inclusivity and community support, we open our playgrounds and gymnasiums to local schools, community groups, and national teams. By offering these spaces for events like school sports meets, training sessions for the Sri Lankan national netball team, and other athletic activities, we aim to foster a culture of health and fitness for all age groups.
This initiative supports environmental and social sustainability. By maximizing the use of existing sports infrastructure, we reduce the need for additional facilities, thus lowering environmental impact and resource use. Additionally, this collaboration strengthens our connection with the community, enhancing local engagement and encouraging active lifestyles. Sharing our resources with schools and community groups not only benefits local youth but also cultivates a more resilient, health-conscious, and sustainable society.
